Frequently Asked Questions

General

Who makes your products?

Our products are manufactured by Gentry Stinson in Phoenix, Arizona. We design and build our products in-house and source specialized components, such as mounting hardware and lighting channels, from outside suppliers when appropriate.

Are your products in stock?

Most products are made to order rather than pulled from finished-goods inventory. Lead times vary by product, material, finish, quantity, and current production schedule. Any project with a firm installation date should be discussed with us before ordering.

Do your products require assembly?

No. Our shelves and display pedestals ship factory assembled. We do not sell flat-pack or ready-to-assemble (RTA) versions of these products.

How will I receive order and shipping updates?

Order and shipment updates are sent by email. Once a shipment is released to the carrier, tracking information is provided when available. For order-specific questions, email support@gentrystinson.com.

Floating Shelves

What floating shelf configurations do you offer?

Our current floating-shelf program includes Standard, Single Return, and Wall-to-Wall configurations. Each product page shows only the dimensional combinations available for that configuration and surface type.

What shelf thicknesses are available?

Available thicknesses depend on shelf width and depth. Our configurator automatically filters out combinations that we do not manufacture. The minimum available thickness for most standard shelves is 2-1/2 inches, while deeper and longer shelves may require a greater thickness.

Where can I watch installation videos?

See our Floating Shelf Installation Videos for Standard, Single Return and Wall-to-Wall shelves. Choose the guide that matches your mounting configuration.

How are Standard floating shelves mounted?

Standard floating shelves use the Stinson Mounting System, incorporating HOVR interlocking bracket components. The shelf is positioned above the wall-mounted bracket and lowered into engagement rather than being slid horizontally onto rods.

How are Single Return and Wall-to-Wall shelves mounted?

These configurations use concealed cleat-based mounting systems because the side returns require a different installation method than the Standard shelf. Single Return shelves include a back-wall cleat and one side-wall cleat; Wall-to-Wall shelves use concealed support at the back and both sides as required by the configuration.

Is mounting hardware included?

The shelf-specific mounting system is included. Wall fasteners must be appropriate for the actual substrate and installation conditions. Requirements can differ for wood framing, metal framing, masonry, tile, concrete, or other wall assemblies.

Can floating shelves be installed on stone, brick, concrete, or tile?

Often, yes, but the attachment method depends on the substrate and what is behind the finish material. Use fasteners and drilling methods specifically rated for the wall construction. For difficult installations or load-critical applications, we recommend using a qualified installer.

How much weight can a floating shelf support?

Load capacity depends on shelf dimensions, wall construction, fastener selection, attachment to structure, load placement, and installation quality. Our shelves are designed to support substantial weight when properly installed, but we do not publish a single universal load rating for every installation condition. See our Floating Shelf Installation & Load Guidelines.

What does “LED Light Ready” mean?

LED Light Ready means the shelf is physically prepared for a customer-supplied 24V LED lighting system. We machine the selected channel location and provide the aluminum channel and diffuser. The LED strip, driver, controls, dimming equipment, wiring, and electrical commissioning are supplied by the customer or electrician. See our LED Light Ready Specification & Planning Guide.

Where can the LED channel be located?

LED Light Ready shelves can be configured with one channel in one of four locations: Top Front, Top Rear, Bottom Front, or Bottom Rear. The selected position is recorded with the order.

Materials & Finishes

Are all of your shelves made from solid wood?

No. We use different engineered constructions depending on the product. Wood Veneer shelves use genuine wood veneer over an engineered substrate. Paint Ready and Painted shelves use MDF because it provides a smooth, consistent surface for painted finishes. Our floating shelf shells use CNC-machined precision miter joints; see our Precision Miter Joint Construction Guide for details.

What is MDF?

MDF, or medium-density fiberboard, is an engineered wood panel made from refined wood fibers bonded under heat and pressure. It is not particleboard. Its uniform density and smooth faces make it well suited to accurately machined and painted architectural products.

Which wood veneers do you currently offer?

Our current veneer program includes Rift White Oak, Maple, Clear Alder, Knotty Alder, and Walnut. Finish choices vary by species and include Unfinished / Stain Ready and selected Rubio Monocoat finishes. See the Real Wood Veneer Species Guide and Unfinished / Stain Ready vs. Rubio Monocoat Finishes.

Which painted colors do you currently offer?

Our standard painted floating-shelf palette currently includes Sherwin-Williams Alabaster SW 7008, Natural Linen SW 9109, Universal Khaki SW 6150, Halcyon Green SW 6213, Tricorn Black SW 6258. The product configurator shows the current available palette. See our 7-Step Painted Finish Process and Color, Finish & Natural Material Variation Guide.

Can you make a custom color, finish, or size?

We can evaluate custom work separately from the standard online program. Send drawings, dimensions, finish requirements, or other specifications to support@gentrystinson.com. Custom availability, pricing, and lead time depend on the project.

Can I request material or finish samples?

Yes. Sample availability and pricing vary by material and finish. Email support@gentrystinson.com with the product and finish you are considering.

Display Pedestals

How are your display pedestals constructed?

Our standard display pedestal is a five-panel box: four vertical sides and a finished top. The bottom remains open to provide access for wiring, lighting components, leveling feet, or other installation requirements. The pedestal corners are assembled with CNC-machined precision miter joints; see our Precision Miter Joint Construction Guide for the joint geometry and assembly method.

How are products packaged for shipment?

We use protective packaging matched to the product, including Sealed Air Instapak foam-in-bag cushioning where appropriate. See Protective Packaging, Foam-in-Bag & Environmental Tradeoffs.

Are display pedestals made to order?

Yes. Standard pedestal footprints and heights are selected through the product configurator and each pedestal is manufactured to the ordered specification.

Orders, Trade & Shipping

Do you accept custom and trade projects?

Yes. Gentry Stinson is a millwork manufacturer and works with designers, architects, contractors, cabinet companies, millworkers, and other professional customers. Trade and project pricing is handled separately from standard ecommerce pricing when appropriate.

Do you offer rush production?

Rush production may be available depending on material availability and the current factory schedule. Contact us before ordering if a project has a fixed deadline.

How is shipping priced?

Product pricing and shipping are separated. Shipping is calculated at checkout or quoted when the order requires freight or special handling. See our Shipping Policy & FOB Phoenix Pricing page for additional details.

Do you ship internationally?

International shipping is available only to approved trade customers and must be arranged before the order is placed. Duties, taxes, brokerage, import fees, and local compliance requirements are the buyer's responsibility.

What warranty applies to your floating shelves?

Eligible floating shelves purchased online carry our five-year limited product warranty only if they are not installed by Gentry Stinson or anyone acting on our behalf and are not covered by a separate master agreement or project contract. Kitchen and bathroom projects, installed cabinetry and similar contracted work follow their own written agreements and applicable law. See the 5-Year Limited Online Product Warranty for coverage, exclusions and the pro-rata schedule.

How can I contact you about a project or order?

Email support@gentrystinson.com. For changes, approvals, custom specifications, and order-specific instructions, email provides a clear written project record.
