Custom & Project Work

01 · Custom Scope

When Custom Work Makes Sense

Use the custom process when a standard product is close, but the project requires a meaningful manufacturing or specification change.

Non-Standard Dimensions

Sizes or proportions that fall outside the current online configurator.

Special Mounting Conditions

Unusual returns, corners, wall conditions or other project-specific mounting requirements.

Material & Finish Coordination

Project-specific veneer, paint or finish requirements that need factory review.

Quantity & Multi-Room Packages

Coordinated orders where quantities, finishes or production sequencing should be reviewed together.

Commercial & Display Applications

Hospitality, retail, gallery, workplace and other non-residential project conditions.

Wall-mounted furniture, fireplace mantels or related project work not yet offered as a standard ecommerce product.

02 · Factory Review

What We Can Evaluate

Custom work is reviewed based on manufacturing feasibility, material availability, quantity, finish requirements, packaging and shipping constraints, and the current production schedule. Not every request is a fit for our factory, but complete, well-documented projects can usually be evaluated quickly.

03 · Project Information

What to Send Us

Complete information lets us evaluate the project faster and quote it more accurately.

01

Dimensions & Quantities

Overall width, depth, thickness or height, plus the number of pieces required.

02

Closest Standard Product

Tell us which Gentry Stinson product is closest to what you need.

03

Installation Condition

Wall condition, returns, corners, alcoves or other mounting constraints.

04

Material & Finish

Veneer species, paint requirements, finish reference or other surface specification.

05

Drawings & Reference Material

Plans, elevations, sketches, photographs or marked-up dimensions whenever available.

06

Schedule & Destination

Required delivery date, shipping destination and any freight or jobsite constraints.

04 · Process

How the Process Works

A straightforward review before anything moves into production.

01

Submit the Project

Send the initial scope through our project inquiry form or email drawings and specifications directly.

02

Feasibility Review

We compare the request with our materials, tooling, construction methods and current factory capacity.

03

Scope Clarification

We identify unresolved dimensions, finishes or installation details before quoting.

04

Project Quote

Custom, quantity and trade pricing is handled separately from standard ecommerce pricing when appropriate.

05

Approval & Production

Production begins after scope approval. Lead time is based on the approved work and current factory schedule.

05 · Standard Program

Standard Products Are Still the Fastest Route

If the project fits the standard dimensional and finish program, the online configurators are usually the most efficient way to specify and order.

From the Shop · Custom Builder Order

A custom order.
A different direction.

Actual production shelves for a local builder’s custom home, with a distinctive waterfall grain specified for this project.

Wood shelves in a range of tones standing on a production rack in the Gentry Stinson shop.
On the shop floor at Gentry Stinson in Phoenix.

Some of the most important details in a custom home are the ones you notice up close. For this local builder’s order, the detail is the direction of the wood grain.

Our standard wood shelves have grain running left to right along the shelf’s length. These shelves were made with a custom waterfall grain orientation, carrying the grain across the surface and over the front edge rather than the side edges. Watch the close-ups to see how that change in direction shapes the character of the finished piece.

Filmed in our Phoenix shop, these are actual production shelves being made for a custom home. The footage brings you close to the material and the front-edge detail while the order is still on the shop floor.

That is where custom work begins: with a particular project and the details that make it its own. Here, a change in grain direction gives a familiar architectural element a different expression.
